Urban mobility

A balance between Technology & Environment.

The project

It is said that it takes about 4000l. of water and 15 animal skins to BUILD ONE car. Never again.

This project is focused on the major problems of our time. The challenge we need to solve is that our planet is losing its health due to the uncontrolled and massive use of its sources.

As a modern civilisation, we have to develop our technology while also taking care of the environment. It´s crucial to emphasize the importance of protecting the Earth by using recycled materials and renewable energy.

The second point is we have various robust materials available, including nanomaterials and nanotechnology. In this project, I promote their use because they have numerous applications that can make our lives easier.

The brand

SEAT: Innovation and excellence in urban vehicles.

SEAT, a leading brand in the automotive industry, stands out for its commitment to innovation and excellence in urban vehicles. With a focus on the driver and the needs of city life, SEAT models offer agile performance, fuel efficiency and comfort in compact spaces. In addition, the brand is distinguished by its commitment to sustainability and environmental friendliness, with electric propulsion options and eco-efficient technologies. With contemporary and dynamic styling, SEAT provides an enjoyable and uncomplicated driving experience on urban streets.

SKETCHING

It is a city car designed to travel short distances on narrow streets. It can comfortably carry two passengers and is compact enough for easy parking. Its design is inspired by some SEAT models: Minimo, Leon and the Ibe concept car.

Inspiration: SEAT Minimó

Inspiration: SEAT León

Inspiration: SEAT IBE

MAIN IDEA

I have sought a clean design with the SEAT DNA. This design shares three points with SEAT:

-Side design: two parallels lines and a big one down them at the end of the doors.

-Rear design: Minimó helped me build the city car: small and narrow, but with a big bumper to protect the passengers. The triangular taillights initially couldn’t be a simple design; at first glance, I didn’t take it seriously.

-Front design: I redesigned the front shapes of the Ibe concept car for the bonnet of this new design because an electric motor doesn’t need grilles like a fuel car. The lights are similar but simplified, and the language, as you can see, is the same.

IMPROVEMENTS

There are some parts I changed to improve the initial design:

-I changed the taillights to a triangle light design similar to the headlights.

-The fog lights are now horizontal. They illuminate better than the vertical ones.

-An opaque roof will better protect passengers from the sun´s rays.

-A clean way to open the door with a design inside the door.

INTERIOR DESIGN

I have done my best in interior design. This is the summary:

-Bio PETS: they are part of the dashboard. Industry can reuse them for a second chance or get more from them through plants.

-Recycled plastics: they will be the basis for customisable 3D-printed elements. Some of these elements could change their initial design to meet the needs of different people, with a focus on solving problems due to physical disabilities.

-Vegetative fibres, Modal and Lyocell: would be the perfect complement for seating and clothing. These fibres are as good as animal fibres and can even provide some of nature's qualities (lowering the indoor temperature in summer, for example) and we avoid sacrificing those animals to obtain these materials.

-Design: you can see several elements inspired by natural elements such as leaves or flowers. We are all part of the same planet and all our designs should live in a peaceful ecosystem. This design I want to be as clean as my knowledge allows me, but as a team, I will be happier to make it better and 100% respectful.

Let´s discover the details

THE INSPIRATION

This project took me two months in the summer of 2019. I had a hard job in my city, and the motivation to create it came from the Marvel movies I discovered and watched in my spare time. I was intrigued by the nanotechnology I studied for my master’s degree, and Tony Stark uses it a lot. I thought I couldn’t wait any longer to say out loud that this technology would help us in the field of security.

I have always enjoyed working in the field of safety and eco-design, thinking about how materials can help us and how we can protect the Earth. We are an ancient civilisation and we have a responsibility to preserve the environment and, at the same time, improve our technology. Both can grow together, and I, as a designer, have a responsibility and a duty to do so, for a better place for us and for the next generations.

-His name, Atarfe, comes from the town where my brother lives and could mean two words in English “Atar” as “link”, to unite, or to bind. And “Fe”, like “Faith”. The meaning I wanted for this car is the message for people to have faith in technology and change. Faith moves mountains, and we have to have confidence in the future, in a better world, with respectful technology and a healthy world.

-Triangles, why triangles on the roof? A triangular element, surface or object is said to be the strongest structure in engineering. That part is composed of glass with aluminium triangle fittings to make it stronger, in case of a rollover or accident. It is a similar design to a normal roof but looks out of the box.

-The green side. I looked for many materials to make the interior design as respectful as possible, and the inspiration could not be other than nature. Looking at the plants, I discovered that the steering wheel is the open flower on the dashboard. The interior doors could be roots, and passengers can hold them. The seats are like comfortable leaves.

-Development. This project was created in the summer of 2019. I was working hard in my small town, I came home very tired, and, I don’t know how to explain it, but my mind needed to work with vehicles. I started this project because I didn’t like to see how we were polluting the environment, and I wanted to test myself to find a better future for cities and transport mobility.
