NISSAN VERON

BY GUILLERMINA

Challenge everything

Ask yourself why, what and how

SHOWING

This concept car finished in the Top13 in a 2015 competition sponsored by Nissan, Autopista and the University of Valencia. Veron would appear in Autopista magazine (issue 2,934), along with all the finalists and the winner of this contest.. Link.

BRIEFING

This project is inspired by the search for a better driving sensation, in which I have tried to eliminate barriers based on the sense of vision. To explain myself better, I am going to divide the bodywork into two parts to be assembled: the first one, in the upper part, creates a cover to the interior, totally transparent and resistant, in which there are no pillars that could hinder the driver’s vision; and the lower part, makes up the rest of this bodywork..

Let’s start with the main idea: freedom. How could I achieve a form of freedom of forms? Let’s see…

SKETCHING

I started with soft, sweet lines. Then I realized it could be a faster running animal. I don’t know why but it gave me the feeling of a horse. I looked at that horse when I modified it in my mind and tried to design a metal horse, finding similarities with the hooves. And then those hooves will be transformed into bodies. They are the basis of the concept car. A kind of metallic freedom.

DESIGNING

This design uses technology to facilitate the driver’s vision. I will divide the car into two parts to assemble: the body and a transparent metallic glass passenger compartment without pillars and with joints for a hermetic seal. This glass will be composed of:

-The glass is treated with photochromic glass that will be darker to protect passengers from the sun’s rays, and lighter on rainy days or at night. This technology keeps you protected from UV rays and provides visibility in unfavorable environmental conditions. The windows have a degraded design with an untreated part with photochromic glass, to protect safety and the view from the rear-view mirrors.

In addition, the absence of pillars provides a feeling of freedom similar to that of a convertible car.

-The rear window is made of electric glass. It can lose its transparency and become opaque if a power supply is applied to it. It has the function of a tinted glass, and you can activate it manually. It will protect you from blindness when driving at night with cars behind. When you park the car, you can turn on the glass, and it could hide some forgotten things inside.

PLANNING

The engine is not developed, but I would like to explain that, if possible, it will have an electric engine supported by panels on the roof to obtain energy from the sun. The car will be respectful of the Earth, and will try not to depend too much on a power station.

FEELING

I wanted a clean and simple dashboard. All focused on the feeling of freedom behind the wheel. With no pillars, you can see the traffic circle better and focus only on the road. The mirrors show you the outside of the steering wheel, the seat hugs you and holds your body, and if you need anything, there are a few buttons on the dashboard to control everything.

Reflexion

Forget everything, who are you?

Maybe it's too much for us now, but… It's a statement of intent. This concept car portrayed me before I became an industrial designer. I knew the materials, I was researching elements and technologies. All I wanted was to improve, to make cars with a different point of view. Maybe this car has a lot of technology and, some elements can't build this car.
